October 2013

October was a beautiful month with all of the fall colors.  We spent much of our time outside at soccer practices and games so luckily for us the month was so nice.

Caedan turned 6 on October 1st and we celebrated in style with a University of Washington themed party.  Get your dubs up!
Legos and machinery!  A match made in heaven for Caedan.

Soccer season was in full swing.

Olivia's team kept us busy with games all month long.

Because Olivia was not busy enough with her soccer team and softball team she also ran on her school's cross country team.
She placed 6th in her school's home race!
This is the Tye River running in front of the beach access at our new ski cabin.  In October we closed on a very small ski cabin which we purchased with Robert's youngest bother and his wife.  By very small I mean 640 square feet for the six of us.  But we are only 15 minutes from skiing so we are very excited about that.

This is what was left on our porch one evening.

This is what our pumpkins looked like.  Notice that they have no teeth and the chew marks around the eyes.  We think that they were attacked by squirrels but without video evidence we are left to speculate.

Our cowboy and Merida enjoyed Halloween and all of the loot that they brought home.

Caedan's quote of the month "That is just the way the world works.  Sometimes you have to walk backwards."

Now that we have a cabin in the mountains we have started our snow dances.

September 2013

September takes us back into the classroom.  Caedan was so excited when this day finally arrived.  We made a paper chain in the beginning of August to help him count down the days.  We are now slowly working our way back into the routine of school, homework, making lunches and earlier bedtimes for everyone.

The first day of school outfits are courtesy of my neighbor.  Caedan asked if he had a new shirt to wear to school for the first day.  He has so many clothes that we had not bothered to buy more.  Shortly after that my neighbor arrived with a new t-shirt for Caedan and this awesome skirt that she made for Olivia.

Lined up so that the parents could take pictures before the kids went into the room.

Some of the best things about Olivia's first month of 5th grade:

  • Getting to be a crossing guard.
  • Being one of the older kids at school
  • Being reunited with her best friend
  • Writing her personal narrative
  • Her teacher

Highlights of Caedan's first month of Kindergarten:

  • School lunch (Mostly the chocolate milk part)
  • School lock down (The bank up the hill from his school was robbed and the robber was on the loose)
  • Writers workshop
  • PE
  • Going on a leaf hunt

Soccer is now in full swing.  Soccer consumes much of our time, currently taking up 4 nights of our week and sometimes 5.
The Mustangs are a force to be reckoned with.

Occasionally you have to fight with your own teammate to get the ball.

The Redwings have started out the season very strong.  Most of the girls have played together for several seasons.

We have had some very wet games so far.  For two games it poured the entire game.  You can't tell from this picture but it was a very wet game.  The other team is all weaing rain jackets and green pennies.

September also has us back on the softball diamond.  Because we do not have enough on our plates we have started a softball tournament team.  This has taken a lot of work but all of the extra work should payoff for the girls in the spring.

Caedan's quote of the month:
"When I am a grown up I know that I will be a good fighting ninja."

We have our eyes on the mountains as we are anxiously waiting for the snow to start falling and sticking!

August 2013 Update

Book ends.
August started off with a camping trip and ended with another camping trip.
This was our month to relax and hang out doing fun things before the busy month of September starts.

The month began with a camping trip at Nason Creek near Lake Wenatchee.  It was pouring down rain when we packed up our car, but once we crested the pass we found it sunny and warm.

Showing our Husky Spirit everywhere we go!

Double Digits.
Olivia turned 10 in August.
I asked her if she felt older and she said "Yes, a little."

We celebrated with her friends at Paint Away where all of the girls created a masterpiece.

We then celebrated with more cake and presents with the family.

These boys really wanted to help with the unwrapping.

We then headed out to the coast for a long weekend at the beach in Seabrook.  To sum up the trip we played at the beach, swam at the pool, played at the beach and swam at the pool.  And it was perfect and I want to go back.

.
We stayed in this cute little cottage.

We went to the beach every day.

I was trying to take a picture of this pelican in the middle of hundreds of seagulls....

and then Caedan ran through the middle of the flock and chased them all away.

 We celebrated our 16th anniversary.

Caedan spent hours panning for gold.  Sadly, he did not find any.

Can you believe that I managed to find myself a purple bike?

Miles and miles of beach and Caedan managed to find the only stick around.

Olivia practiced her cartwheels in the waves.

.
We flew our kite.

The kids spent hours digging in the sand.

After digging in the sand they looked like this.

We wrote our names in the sand.
Did I mention that I want to go back?

We spent Labor Day Weekend camping on Camano Island with a great group of friends for the second year in a row.  I hope that this becomes an annual trip.  Hint, hint to everyone who was on this trip.

The best part of the trip...my kids sleeping together in their own tent.  It made the large tent feel like a palace.  Caedan and Olivia, there is no turning back now.  You have now graduated to your tent when we are camping.

You really can start a fire with a magnifying glass and the sun.

When you get tired of setting wood on fire there are always bees!

Archery lessons.

We enjoyed a beautiful sunset on the beach.

Caedan's quote of the month:
"My day was delicious."

September brings the start of school, soccer and softball practice.  As Robert says 'The only way to get better is with practice.'
